What Happens If You Don’t Enroll

If you do not enroll during Open Enrollment for the upcoming TriNet benefits plan year and your current benefit elections are not available for the new benefits plan year, here’s what will happen:

Type of benefit

Coverage you will have if you do not enroll

Medical, dental* and vision* coverage

You will be automatically enrolled in similar benefit plans (if available) at your current coverage level. These plans may have differences in coverage and higher premiums and/or out-of-pocket expenses than your current benefit elections.

HSA participation

Your account remains active; however, to continue contributing to your HSA through pre-tax payroll deductions, you must enroll each benefits plan year and elect how much you would like to contribute from your pay.

FSA participation

Your participation will end on the last day of the current benefits plan year and you will not be able to make contributions for the new benefits plan year. If you would like to continue contributing to these accounts, you must affirmatively enroll each benefits plan year and elect how much you would like to contribute from your pay.

Group life insurance and group disability coverage*

Your current coverage will continue, subject to worksite selections.

Voluntary benefits

Your current elections will continue without interruption.

Premium deductions will be taken from your paycheck for these benefit plans, possibly at a higher cost. And you will not be able to change your benefit elections or add or change your dependents until Open Enrollment for the next TriNet benefits plan year, unless you experience a qualified life status change before then.

*If your worksite stops contributing toward disability coverage, your current disability elections will not roll over to the new plan year.
